National Staff Development Council

http://www.nsdc.org/standards/learningcommunities.cfm

The purpose of the learning community is to provide information to classroom teachers related to staff development, evaluation, research, learning, collaboration skills, equity, and family involvement. Provided a listing of publications and bookstore items, links to an ethics section, evaluation tools, diversity, ethics, and staff development are provided.

The site is user friendly and information on learning communities, job postings, learning communities, and model staff development programs are available.

Even though a wealth of information is provided, a mission statement and goals of the site would be helpful to the reader.

LD Online

http://www.ldonline.org/

The purpose of the LD-Online learning community is to provide and disseminate information related to learning disabilities. LD-Online is a great website for parents, teachers, ancillary personnel, and individuals with disabilities. The information is current. There are articles written by experts in the field. The site provides links to homework tips, teaching tips, and transition information.

The site is user friendly and offers definitions (learning disabilities, ADHD, twice exceptional), evaluations, accommodations, and guides to writing Individual Education Plans (IEPs). There are links to newsletters, Special Education law, and video clips featuring teachers and students with disabilities. The only thing that I would change is to be able to listen to Rick Lavoie and Larry Silver all day long.

Merlot Review

Merlot

http://www.merlot.org/merlot/index.htm

This multimedia educational resource provides a multitude of resources related to a variety of disciplines. One can establish a profile, join a speakers bureau; personalize links to colleagues; create a CV and convert everything to a text file; create and demonstrate instructional techniques and share them with friends.

The interactions support the goals and purpose of the site. Information on learning materials, experts in the field, assignments are available in detail and are free. The site is user friendly and provides professional information on a variety of topics. The information is organized into communities for easy access to information, and provides a wealth of learning materials.

At this time, I would like to see that the site is Bobby approved for access to screen readers and zoom text abilities. The site is user friendly, provides links to articles, professionals, and professional organizations. It is one to bookmark.

The purpose of this blogging community is to provide information related to the digital divide. Feature articles are highlighted and provide information related to elearning. The current feature entry shares information about a conference held in India during August 2007. Seven categories presented included: telecentres e-government, e-health, e-agriculture, e-commerce, mobile services, and community radio.

Blogging, sharing documents, discussions, postings, and links to articles are available on this site. The site features events, discussion boards, and a variety of communities addressing the following topics: access, content, cool tools, literacy and learning, and a digitaldivde list.

The varied sections and numerous activities available on this site support the goals and purpose of the digital divide network.

The best quality of the digital divide community in terms of interaction is the variety of opportunities in which to engage. Numerous articles and postings are international which adds to the limitless perspectives of the elearning community. Membership to this site is free.

The digital divide site is user friendly. There is not a lot of clutter. I would like to see better organization of the articles so they are easier to access.
